Description

The United States flag features thirteen horizontal red and white stripes with a blue canton containing fifty white stars and is used both as a courtesy flag by foreign vessels and as the national ensign by United States-registered craft. Smaller sizes are commonly flown as courtesy flags when entering U.S. waters, while larger sizes are suitable for display as the vessel’s national flag. Manufactured from marine-grade polyester, the flag is designed for durability and colour retention in marine environments. Courtesy flags should be flown from the starboard spreader or a designated courtesy halyard, while the national flag should be displayed at the stern or on a stern-mounted flagstaff in accordance with accepted maritime practice.
